Tips for Employees with children Trick-or-Treating

• Parents should ensure children can easily see and hear in their costumes
• Attach bright or colour reflective material to a costume for visibility
• Encourage children to remove masks while walking - they can put their masks back on at the door
• Travel in groups. Children should have an accompanying adult.
• Follow traffic signals and stop signs. Use caution when crossing roads and walk, don't run.
• Parents should help children plan a route ahead of time. If older children are out without parents, they should update their parents if a route plan changes.
• Make sure someone in the group has a cell phone with a full or close to full charge.
• Only trick-or-treat at houses with lights on. Don't go into a house if invited inside.
• Parents should inspect children's candy before eating. Candy that isn't in original wrappers or looks suspicious should be discarded.
• Walk on the sidewalk where possible. If there's no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the road facing traffic. Do one side of the road and then cross and do the other side.
