PREREQUISITES FOR POSITION:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry from a recognized academic institution or M.Sc. in Chemistry with a minimum 4 years of experience in a related field or B.Sc. in Chemistry with a minimum 7 years of experience in a related field.
- Extensive knowledge and experience operating instruments such as HPLC, GC, UV, DSC, IR, and Particle Size Analyzer.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with standard wet chemistry techniques routinely used in an analytical lab setting as applied in the pharmaceutical field.
- Familiarity with Method Development and Method Validation is an asset.
- Firm knowledge of cGMP.
- Firm knowledge of USP, BP, EP, ICH, and TPD guidelines and procedures.
- The ability to work as a member of a team.
- The willingness to upgrade knowledge/education on an on-going basis.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Empower and/or Chemstation/Chemstore software.
Laboratory Testing:
- Tests R&D samples as and when required using various techniques including HPLC, UV, GC, IR, ROI, KF, DSC, TGA, IC, Autotitration, Particle Size, and any other standard pharmacopoeial test methodology.
- Carries out work related to analytical method development, cleaning validation studies, and standard certification. Ensures work complies with cGMP and regulatory requirements.
- Develops analytical methods using various techniques including laser techniques for particle size, HPLC, and GC under guidance from Group Leader or senior staff.
- Reports all testing results and deviations encountered during testing. Recommends improvements to analytical procedures/protocols. Utilizes advanced analytical knowledge and experience in carrying out investigation activities. Resolves moderate issues, seeking input from higher-level team members, as required.
- Properly documents analytical data and information, as directed. Self-reviews analytical data for accuracy and completeness.
- Carries out stress studies on raw materials and finished products.
- Assists analytical R&D lab staff to meet overall project deadlines.
- Promptly identifies and discusses problems related to instruments and methods of analysis with the Senior Chemist/Group Leader.
Laboratory Leading Role:
- Takes a leading role in troubleshooting of analytical methods.
- Assists in documentation reviewing.
- Trains junior staff members for proper operation of equipment and related software, as well as, for proper documentation of daily analytical work.
- Searches for analytical methods for testing of drug substances and related compounds.
- Develops critical analytical skills needed for successful method development and method validation activities; develops troubleshooting skills for instrumental and methodology issues.
Laboratory Responsibilities:
- Validates/calibrates instruments, as directed. Properly documents instrument logbooks for routine maintenance, repairs calibration, and validation.
- Identifies the need for chemicals, gases, standards, glassware, and other supplies.
- Maintains an organized and safe laboratory environment.
- Ensures the work complies with health and safety standards, SOPs, cGMP, and regulatory requirements.
- Develops proper techniques and operational expertise with key laboratory instrumentation such as, but not limited to HPLC, GC, KF, UV, IR, DSC, TGA, etc.
- Presents the technical data in an accurate and organized manner, both verbally and written.
- Possesses ability to critically assess results for accuracy and precision; suggests or determines critical parameters causing poor or inconsistent results.
- Possesses strong method development skills and applies these to the analytical requirements of the R&D projects for raw materials, process intermediates, and APIs.
- Possesses advanced troubleshooting skills and proficiency with key laboratory instrumentation.
- Completes assignments within allotted period to ensure deadlines are met.
- Keeps the laboratory, instruments, glassware, in a clean and organized manner.
- Assists Analytical R&D lab to meet overall project deadlines.
- Assists senior staff in training junior staff members.
- Possesses well developed multi-tasking abilities.
- Possesses/develops the ability to adapt to frequent changes in priorities and schedules.
- Acquires a firm understanding of cGMP fundamentals.
- Continuously upgrades and adds to analytical skill set to include the ability to work with new instrumentation and the ability to learn and apply new analytical techniques (both instrumental and wet chemical).
- Performs any other work-related assignments, as required.
- Follows all R&D and Company policies and procedures.
